Welcome!
I teach courses in literature, composition, and pedagogy, and serve as the Coordinator of English Teaching Programs at Eastern Kentucky University (EKU). EKU's Department of English offers two English Teaching programs: English Teaching (for certification in Secondary English, grades 8-12) and English & History Teaching (for certification in Secondary English + History/Social Studies, grades 8-12). Recognized by a High-Impact Practice Teaching Award and an EKU Libraries Faculty Partnership Award, students in our programs regularly complete collaborative and supervised projects--many of which are presented or published through regionally- and nationally-recognized venues.
A Frances S. Summersell Fellow and Phi Kappa Phi award recipient, my work regularly engages interdisciplinary approaches to American literature (particularly women's literature and the literature of the American South), K-16 composition and rhetoric pedagogy, and archive studies. In addition to my recently published book, Arranging Stories (University of Mississippi Press, 2022), current projects include a collaborative oral history article; a DH pedagogy collaborative project called Students in the Archives; and a nascent stage project about writing and reading historical fiction across centuries. For additional information about my professional activities, please explore this website, access my Curriculum Vitae, and listen to this student-developed podcast about connections between my research and teaching.
